I will be speaking at RIAdventure next week. I am giving two sessions; one on Flash Dev for the iPhone and the other on the Flex Mobile Framework (Slider).
Both sessions have completely new content so it won’t be a repeat from MAX. I will post the slides when I return.
In the iPhone dev session I will be covering 10 tips for creating applications. I will be using several applications that I have built, and that are on the app store, as examples. Some of the before and after results are significant so it should be interesting. More after the conference.
As for Slider, I will be presenting additional information on the projects progress with details around performance, skinning, and most importantly the Screens feature.
If you are attending and have specifics you want covered on either topic feel free to let me know.
If you are interested in Slider but don’t know what to do until it is out, let me let you in on some tips that will give you a head start. See my first post to make sure you are up to date on the latest information regarding Slider.
Slider is branched from Flex 4.
Starting learning Flex 4. By getting started on Flex 4 you will be able to understand (and question) why we make the decisions we make in regards to Slider. Flex 4 is to the point (Beta 2) where it should not change much. So if you start learning it now, don’t worry, it won’t be a waste of time down the road. Ted Patrick is documenting his learning’s with starting flex 4 from scratch. That is a great place to start. Also since the Flex 4 SDK is open source there is no reason you can’t start contributing to it.
Motorola today announced DROID, the first device powered by Android 2.0 and features the brainpower and breakneck speed of a modern smartphone. DROID is designed to outperform where other smartphones fall short. It features a solid exterior, intelligent interior and is one of the thinnest full-QWERTY slider phones available. DROID delivers high-speed Web browsing, voice-activated search, a customizable large touch screen and access to thousands of apps and hundreds of widgets from Android Market.
As my first post it only makes sense to talk a little bit about Slider, Adobe’s effort to bring the Flex SDK to devices. From our Adobe Labs page – “Adobe is currently developing a mobile-optimized version of the Flex framework that will make it easy for developers to build Flex applications that run across mobile devices. Using Slider, developers can leverage their existing skills to build intuitive applications that can be easily customized and rapidly adapted across platforms.”
We have a high level whitepaper that explains what we are doing in Slider and hints at some directions we are going to take it. I recommend reading through it, its pretty short and is light reading. We also have a FAQ up that you should check out.
Last but not least! Ely Greenfield and myself gave a presentation at MAX 2009 in L.A. that walks through in greater detail some areas we are looking at for Slider.
This is where I will be posting Slider news, info, and updates I will also be posting on other topics – most of the time relating to mobile. I will be posting the slides from the presentation tomorrow in pdf format. That is all I have for now but you can always follow me on twitter. Up next, more information on the Screens feature….
